Why Does Apple Hate The Enviroment &A#JD1Tg!d8!' 1098
*IGNORED* Keeping certain parts of them out of the garbage dumps is a good thing as they are toxic and contagion ground water. Apple vs The Scroll Wheel Since it's the Mac Jihad v All Normal People. Normal people state that most scroll wheels do not work by default on Mac and... But as you point out ahead, you have to consider costs when recycling. Breaking even is good. Losing money gets into iffy territory that often points to recycling being a bad idea. That's philosophy. Saying that belief is 'dumb' is arrogant. But knowing Penn & Teller that is probably part of their humor. Why Does Apple Hate The Enviroment 1099 That episode was about PETA, not the general philosophical issues of animal rights. That episode was about the Endangered Species Act, its costs, and... Sorry folks. I have three bio degrees. Endangered species, endangered environments, all facts on Earth thanks to human behavior. The evidence could not be more obvious. I have to laugh at Penn & Teller as the dummies if they think people with a brain are going to believe otherwise. I can only imagine they would call this 'dumb' to make themselves look stupid. Yeah, well hysteria in general is pretty dumb. So put any work in front of it you like. But human degradation of the Earth's environment has been going on for millennia. There is no grounds to calling concern for the Earth's environment 'dumb'. What is really dumb is to think that short term corporate profits and the jobs that contribute to this exploitation are more important than the survival of mankind through the survival of his environment. I live one mile away from Onandaga Lake in New York State, USA. It is a hell hole of mercury contagioning thanks to a century of legally allowed pollution by Allied Chemical, all for profit and jobs. Was the ruination of this part of the local environment worth the corporate benefits? Well, no chance of drinking water from that lake for quite a long time! No fishing! Better shower if you happen to fall in! A tribute to mankind's 'dumb'ness. And the 'dumb'ness continues while the corporate suits fight to not clean up their mess. No surprise there. Justified cynicism. Verified. The NYS University down the road from me has a great professor who studies energy. He is quite good at doing all the equations then translating into vernacular. He made it quite clear that recycling paper is an energy loser. Well, let's not be dimwitted here either. Definitions of what is suitable space for landfills vary. They are most definitely NOT a sustainable solution, and like it or not sustainability is the new cutting edge of human survival. Also, some parts of the US most definitely do not have space for further landfills. That means the garbage gets shipped out, wasting petroleum and costing sometimes beaucoup de bucks to inhabitants. Witness Ithaca, NY, an hour south of me. Having mapped the entire watershed there at work I can tell you that they are f*cked no matter where they toss a landfill. No it's not, not very anyway. Gross generalization is useless in this field. Plastics commonly contain toxins, unlike paper. They typically don't degrade and become part of the dirt that can feed new growth. The cost of plastic is going to dramatically increase, as is the price of petroleum in general. With time the cost to recycle it is going to be offset by the benefits. Some plastics are more recyclable than others. We can easily and inexpensively get manufacturers off the unrecyclable plastics in order to benefit our future. Huh? Not around here. No one pays for cans where I live. What they pay for is the nebulous 'deposit' value the soda drink container represents. No one cares what the can is made of except at the point where the traded in soda container hits the recycler. At that point they see these objects as aluminum from which they can make a profit by recycling versus digging the ground for more. Apple vs The Scroll Wheel 1105 I have successfully connected scrollwheel-equipped USB mice from MacAlly, Logitech, and HP into various Macs. No such mouse I... Now, if states and countries actually put a value on the aluminum, no matter what form it takes, that would be an improvement. Amusing: What has value around here at the moment is copper. Meth addicts have been breaking into houses in my neighborhood to steal copper piles they can sell to junk dealers. Aluminum cans the dealers don't want. Copper pipe they do. In terms of profit, it could well be. Yesum! Exactly. Anyway, here is my cosmic insight into the future for the day: At one point it will be so expensive to dig mines or wells, so difficult to find new resources, and old resources will be so scarce that we will start digging the landfills for metals and plastics. Apple vs The Scroll Wheel 1101 Hi! Hmmm...the scroll wheel on several Microsoft IntelliMice has worked just by plugging it in to the USB port on a Macintosh. I can... Apple vs The Scroll Wheel 1103 No. Both of the mice he "chose" are wireless using some proprietary technology not natively supported by... Oh sorry, I was tuning into the psychic environmental wacko frequency. Never mind. ;-D -- Fortune Magazine, 11-29-05: What's your computer setup today? Frederick Brooks: I happily use a Macintosh. It's not been equalled for ease of use, and I want my computer to be a tool, not a challenge. Frederick Brooks is the author of 'The Mythical Man Month'. He spearheaded the movement to modernize computer software engineering in 1975
