Why Intel 579PC problem I hope one of you Windows gurus can help me. My wife's PC has started acting extremely wonky over the... Why Intel 580 I wonder if you'd say that about the OS 9 GUI if you had to go back to using it now, or if...
I still don't think that the OSX GUI is as good as the old Mac OS' GUI, but overall, it IS a much better OS. PC problem Mayor of R'lyeh I can't get that far. The machine is literally so slow that I literally can't do anything. I've tried running a program my wife bought called... As for the Intel chips, while operationally speaking I don't give a whit about what's under my computers' hoods (The OS is the thing, you see), I do feel that the move to Intel will prove to be, in the long run, ill advised for Apple. While I'm sure that they felt that they needed to do this, its probably, eventually, going to help marginalize the platform. I can see software developers saying now: "We feel no need to continue developing our software for the Mac. Mac users can now install Windows on their machines so they can run the Windows version of our product if they wish to use it." Also, already, the new machines are gaining a reputation for poor quality that just isn't in Apple's best interest to acquire. I've heard a lot of horror stories about the new MacBook Pros that don't leave me with a warm and fuzzy feeling. I have several friends who have bought them and all have had to take his or her MacBook Pro back at least once. One friend had to send his back three times. The first was a defective screen, the second time they replaced the motherboard, the third time he insisted on being given a new machine - which they did. Couple these teething problems with the profound lack of OSX-Intel native software and hardware drivers and I certainly wouldn't touch one of these first generation Intel designs with a 10-foot pole. Luckily, I'm good to go for at least a couple of years. -- George Graves The health of our society is a direct result of the men and women we choose to admire.
