Yes, memory these days is much better quality than it used to be. Chances are that when you purchase cheap RAM, you will get memory that will work fine, most of the time. Also keep in mind that cheap motherboards such as ones from Dell or the Chinese have pretty liberal memory timing allowances. The likes of Sun, Apple, HP, etc have fairly tight memory timing expectations.

The point that we are making is that you are mistaken if you think that the cheap memory that you are purchasing is the same quality as the RAM that you pay your OEM a lot of money for. The bar that says "what is good enough for every day use" is pretty low relative to the quality of RAM on the market.
