In the case of gold in chip wiring... it does cost more than its market value per ounce. But the chip makers know that an ounce goes a very long ways and can wire thousands of chips and make their small profits.
Well, probably not modern in that sense. The history I'm talking about is where the worker needed a wheelbarrow full of paper money to buy a loaf of bread. Inflation indeed happened by possible mismanagement. I'm sure there might be some internet reference to this. I just remember the old movie clips of them pushing wheelbarrows full of money.
It is possible, and the way the U.S. is going down hill, time will only tell. It will only be possible when another large country thinks that we are weak enough to take over. China comes to mind.
Yes, but the fact is there that gold has value. All countries that I know of recognize gold as wealth. In India, the people convert their wealth to gold ornaments that can be worn. Just another way of carrying it around. Back around the 30s the biggest complaint of coinage was that it got heavy to carry around.

Because they'd have to use the gold as payment. Once you run out, you run out. But now the way things are, the sky is the limit. I wonder if the U.S. can make it to 2022? If we do, then how many generations will it take to pay off this debt that is growing daily? Somewhere, the system can't take much more of this, the bottom will show up.
