Why Microsoft Should Fear Intel Macs" 521
It looks like I've been under a misunderstanding all these years. I thought that checking "Do not move files to the Recycle Bin when deleted" in Recyle Bin-Properties was a sort of "bit bucket". I didn't know that ALL files, whether moved to the Recyle Bin or not, when deleted, remained on the HD (with just the first character of the file name in the MFT changed to a non-ASCII character). I thought that just the files removed to the Recyle Bin were recoverable. "My Bad..." Anyway, thanks, Josh, for enlightening me. I guess I don't know as much about Windows as I thought I did. I do apologize to all the Mac Fanatics who frequent this newsgroup for this faux pas. So I guess that's one point for them. Woo! Hoo! Why Microsoft Should Fear Intel Macs" 523 ShapeShifter has "theme support"? Which ShapeShifter are you referring to? I wouldn't call Unsanity's ShapeShifter "theme support". Compare it to a product, for instance, like WindowBlinds by Stardock Corp. THAT is "theme support... Anyway, I STILL like my Apple "Winbox". So I guess in this area, OS X is no better than XP. BOTH OSes STILL keep files on the HD when deleted, whether sent to the Trash Can-Recycle Bin or not. Eventually, Microsoft will add a "Secure Delete" feature to either XP or Vista. This really was an oversight on their part, I freely admit. However, OS X having the feature still doesn't make up for its "Plain Jane" and colorless Desktop, since it is very easy to add a third-party utility in XP which can do the job just as easily, maybe even better than a "generic" Windows built-in feature, and probably for free or a very low cost. == Donald L McDaniel Please Reply to the Original Thread. ========================================================
