Why Microsoft Should Fear Intel Macs" 524Why Microsoft Should Fear Intel Macs" 528 Apparently, George, you just defined yourself as a "brain-dead idiot", since YOU use that OS designed for "brain-dead idiots". I can go along with that. But remember, YOU defined... On Sun, 30 Jul 2006 20:20:08 -0700, Donald McDaniel Have you actually looked at the themes available? This one seems very different from usual: No, they can't. At least, they can't do so easily. Stardock uses their own theme engine. That's why their products work on non-XP versions of Windows. Shapeshifter can do a lot more than just changing the desktop background. I'm not sure what themes you're talking about. Most of the ones I've seen *do* change the color of the menu bar. Only because you apparently haven't actually looked for Shapeshifter themes. Actually, it can be. The default options allow it on the left side, right side, or bottom. TinkerTool (or a manual hack) can put it in corners or on the top side. That's a mark of a good interface design. You do *not* want a floating application launcher. It's hard enough to hit a target on screen, the last thing you want to do is make the target non-infinite. Why Microsoft Should Fear Intel Macs" 525 On Wed, 26 Jul 2006 16:58:08 -0400, Stuart Krivis No one "forced" me to purchase my brother's first Intel iMac. And no one... Smart Mac users disable that feature. Of course, Smart Mac users will also put the dock on one of the bottom corners so the icons don't move when a new application is launched. That's not 'better'. If you think Microsoft has managed to understand what the GUI 'could be' then your sanity is in greater question than I originally feared. Chaotic has a figurative meaning, which is what I was intending. Most things about the Windows Desktop need changing. A static interface is a good interface. The less consistent an interface is, the more thought it takes to use. It's a lot harder to work with something if you have to visually scan the whole screen every time you need to make a context switch. If you thought Outlook was a great PIM application, then you really need to get your head examined. Also, Entourage isn't really the "Mac version of Outlook", it's the "PIM application for the Mac version of Office". Why would they listen to the Windows UI designers? They were part of a different division, and the people making Entrouage were aiming for Mac users. It would have been stupid *not* to try to make Entourage at least kind of work like a Mac app. Why would they? The MBU at Microsoft spends all their time writing Mac software anyway.
