Why Microsoft Should Fear Intel Macs" 539
On Fri, 21 Jul 2006 14:19:07 -0700, Donald McDaniel Excuse me? Have you actually used a GNU-Linux desktop environment? What makes you think that it isn't 'user programmable'? I've had a 'user programmable' desktop...

Donald McDaniel

So? Neither is windows.

Since when can the end user just change the widget set of their XP look from within the confines of a closed source o-s?

Anybody can get the gui changed in OS X. You just haven't looked around. Same for M$ XP. Most users for XP will just go get WindowBlinds.

Dime? Try a few thousand bucks and an NDA. It is not Open. Now Linux provides the source code to the o-s at no extra charge and is freely available.

Then you should have delineated the differences... just like OpenVMS is no more open than XP is. By rights, both are closed source o-ses.

You need to go deeper into the o-s. You'll find plenty of room for expansion in any area you want to go into. Don't let your ignorance belie this fact.
