Why Microsoft Should Fear Intel MacsWhy Microsoft Should Fear Intel Macs" 564 Sandman You're playing word games, but I'll just add this. We're not talking about "merely refusing to... What did they want to 'stick' the cloners with? You mean growing the market? That was the ENTIRE point of offering it in the first place -- it was what the cloners specifically agreed to. When they failed to do that, and in fact did the opposite, why shouldn't Apple cancel the program? Why Microsoft Should Fear Intel Macs" 563 Mitch There was nothing wrong with that. Their licenses didn't stipulate what type of machines they could build. If that were true, Apple could have cancled their licenses for breach... NO -- you still aren't getting it. It is because they were making general-consumption computers AT ALL. They were sold the license in order to apply it to NEW MARKETS, not to simply compete with Apple. They didn't make the logic board or the OS -- Apple still had to do a lot of work for them (and yes, was also paid for it). See -- the value oof the products is partly Apple's efforts and costs. Apple was obligated to develop for them, and to make sure the parts they make were consistent with the full range of what the cloners wanted to build (in other words, developing to make someone else's plans work, rather than just your own.) So what? They wouldn't have offset what Apple could make without them. And if they aren't making the market bigger, then they are just a cost, not building anything to help.
