Actually, I think your claim was that Apple was going to abandon OS X in favor of Windows. Kind of the opposite of this claim.

Not really -- Microsoft had an opportunity to get big because they had a great position on the cusp of the computer boom. Without a major new boom, Apple will not have the same opportunity. They'll have to do it by offering better products in an industry where people are unwilling to learn technical details and try out new things.

An intersting idea; it seems you are suggesting Apple has built in a larger gap between models and that the space in the gap is where they can grow better.

But just what kind of disadvantage is that? The people at Apple think Mac OS is the major benefit; they don't want to build a strategy based on buttuming that is an optional element.
