yes, I know quite a number of modern AMERICAN Christians who do the same. In fact, I'd go so far as to say MOST Americans who consider themselves Christians have no problem with large portions of the Bible being parables as opposed to actual fact. Most American Christians accept evolution as the mechanism for the proliferation of life on earth and see no conflict with their faith. Yeah, they'll say. God created earth and all the life upon it, but it didn't happen in seven days. Its a long miracle one that has occured over many billions of years. After all, God has all the time in the world. Now. I don't agree with that because I don't see any need for God in the equaltion, but at least these Christians have reconciled their faith with reality and haven't held onto a literal interpretation of the Bible as have fundamentalists like McDaniel. I can respect those people even though I don't agree with them. Its the nut-case fundies with their black-and-white, hellfire and brimstone rabid dogma that I can't abide. These people are profoundly ignorant or deeply disturbed, and either way they're deluded and dangerous. Its their counterparts in the Muslim religion who fly aircraft full of innocent people into buildings and set-off dissolution plants in train stations.
