ah, why would you ever need to format the drive? that's only a PC procedure, not a mac one. just do an archive and install from the Install DVD and your errors will be fixed.
it's currently the price to pay for crystal clear graphics, if you want a grainy UI, go back to XP. Vista will be slower on the UI than macs, just watch.
