Codec issues with AVI files 321
test, for memory, motherboard, how, where download thanks There really is no ideal way to check, it usually is a combination of a... Didn't work Erm forgive me but how can you say gspot 'didn't work'? Didn't work what exactly??? Gspot is a program for identifying the codecs needed to decode or play an avi file. When you install Gspot, you then need to select the avi file you are having problems with and load that avi file into Gspot. Then Gspot will tell you what form of AVI the file is. It may be DivX, XviD or other less well used formats such as quicktime avi files... Either way, Gspot WILL WORK my friend. Give us some details on how it 'didn't work'? Also worth noting: You can try a film wwith the latest DivX codec installed and it won't play. Then, if you uninstall divX and install an earlier version...say 5, 5.01 or even 3.1, you might find the file will play. My best advice is to install something called Ffdshow which, instead of relying on codecs, can decode almost ALL avi and other files via the computers Directshow function. I use this to play most films I download...which is ermn, a couple anyway :) Only sometimes I need to change the decoder to a codec if ffdshow has a problem. Get it here and try it out. A good, stable release(as they are always updating the releases!) is this one I find: I also must say..What Player are you using? It is a well known fact tha windows media player is bad for playing different formats and, even when you have the avi file's correct codec installed, it won't play in that player. Get yourself either of these players...dont worry they dont take over your media playing settings, you can still opt to use mediaplayer if you want to...but you must try these as they go really well with the ffdshow filter. MediaPlayerClbuttic(looks like the oldstyle mediaplayer but lots of functions, options and is VERY VERY GOOD! Get it here: Codec issues with AVI files 322 Actually I have having a problem very similar to Jim P spam. I have a collection of avi files, downloaded all... And I highly recommend BsPlayer for the same reasons..It is my default mediaplayer and i have had no problems for years with it Get it here: Let us know the result after you tried all of that!
