Actually I have having a problem very similar to Jim P spam.
I have a collection of avi files, downloaded all from what i would buttume to be from the same person that encoded them.
I tried to open the concerning files in virtualdub, nandub etc only to be told that the files couldn't be handled. I then tried to open the files in Gspot to shed some light on the situation only to be told that the avi containers are actually quicktime files.
I have incurred some problems, maybe self inflected, or a virus, I'm not sure. But, I think I need to ''test'' the performace of my computer's modem, memory and or mother...
Also when I try to play these files I get picture with no sound but if i rename the containers to .mov I get sound and no picture.
What I want is to know what is going on with these files so that I can handle them in an editing program, like virtualdub and re-encoded them from whateva they are now to a xvid-lame stream.
I see a mention of quicktime avi files???? Are these avi containers with quicktime video coders???? If so why wont programs like virtualdub handle them???? And my understanding of Gspot was that it IDed any avi container so are these files not really avi containers???? Unfort my quicktime knowledge is limited to installing the apple software and that is it.
