DVD drive and software questionsDVD drive and software questions 130 DVD authoring software is pretty picky about drives if it incorporates the ability to burn directly from the authorware. I prefer using something like Nero to burn the finished authored... I started with a Sony DRU-500AX drive and Pinnacle Instant CD-DVD (ver 7.0), and all seemed to be OK. Then I put together a newer computer and got a Benq DW1620 and figgured WTH use the same software. But.. I see from the 8X DVD+R info inside, that i should upgrade the firmware. Hmmm.... Let me get this straight. That Benq is advertised as being capable of 16X, so why "upgrade"?? And then there is the problem that Pinnacle does not seem to support Benq DVD read-writers. I also do not like vendors that have websites that are browser hostile, like Pinnacle (impossible to use with NS6.2 or IE5.0). Furthermore, it is impossible to send ordinary e-mails to them, and they seem to hold their phone number like a top-secert document. So, i have the following questions: 1) Is there any similar, but decent software that is not so pickey on drives? 2) What are the better DVD R-W drives (all CD & DVD formats), both single and dual layer (i am guessing that is the dierction of the future market)? 3) Are there any good drives that are *presently* being made that do *not* require a firmware "upgrade" for the forseeable future?
