Reason why might you ask? It is best to start with what this file is used for. When the system runs out of RAM it goes to this file and uses it as virtual memory. This is why if someone filled their main disk parbreastion with data the system would complain of not enough memory if it needed to use this swap file for extra memory and there was no space. It treats this swap file as extra memory.

Why double might you ask? Good question, well you could take the many many resources on the internet as an answer but I will give it a go for you all. If your system runs out of RAM and goes to the swap file it slows down significantly. This is because disk is much slower than RAM. There is then another issue where memory is then swapped in and out of RAM depending on what algorithms are used. The caches are also write to RAM and disk depending on which algorithms they use too. This is why Sun hardware is much better as their CPU's have much bigger caches. Back to the point, if you are writing to disk the swap in and swap out can get quite intensive until the system stabilizes and can sometimes use up to almost twice the amount of RAM. It is also good to limit this to around 2GB just in case things get completely out of control.

That is only a matter of opinion. You are enbreastled to your opinion, I have given reasons why I said what I said. Do you have a reason why this is silly or is that only based on your opinion? I am interested to find out any reasons why my opinion is a poor one if it is as I am always ready to learn more.
