Hey all, I've got a problem with a Maxtor 80GB hard disk. I've had it for about a year with no problems. I use the hard disk just for backup, and the full 80GB are full

I took the IDE cable out of the hard disk to plug my CD-RW and then reattached the IDE cable afterwards. Went into the BIOS to put the hard disk back as my secondary drive, and it wouldn't detected that it was there. Unplugged the cable and tried again, same thing. Tried again and it detected it as 99GB. Booted into windows and it said that the drive wasn't formatted. Pulled out the IDE cable again and went into the BIOS, this time it detected it as 199GB. I've taken the hard disk out for now since my new PC should be here within the next few days, maybe I'll get a different result on that.

Any ideas on what could be wrong here? Some help would be appreciated because I don't have a backup of anything on the hard disk and I would like to save all the data. Any programs that might help recover the data on the hard disk so I can save it to another one?

I've also noticed that it seems harder to plug the IDE cable into the hard disk, don't know why no pins are bent or broken.

Thanks for any help,
