Huh! Arrow disappeared from taskbar near clock

Somehow you've managed to turn off the "hide inactive icons" for the system tray as well as locked the taskbar. Both are easy to fix.

With XP-2000, it's called CHKDSK. Rarely will you need to run it if your system is formatted as NTFS as opposed to FAT32. But, if you want to, here's how (2 ways): Method...

For the "hide inactive icons," right-click on the taskbar, then select properties. Check the checkbox next to "Hide inactive icons." While there, UNcheck the checkbox next to "lock the taskbar." Click Apply, then OK. That's it.

I was just fiddling around with my soundcard properties, because the sound would disappear whenever I restarted XP. Although I don't know how, that's fixed now. But something weird has happened...

The program icons near the clock - there used to be an arrow to the left of the last icon. When it was there, it would change direction - click on it one way to show all program running in memory, click it the other way to hide idle programs.

Well that arrow has disappeared. So has the "adjusting line" over near the start button icons. I've right-clicked on the taskbar and been through all the settings, but can't get this feature back. Anyone know how to fix it, or even what that arrow is called so I can search help for how to get it back??
