Strange issue in Safe Mode

Newly built computer won't boot
It is not clear how experienced you are at buttembling these boxes. First load just a video card, hard drive, cd (or...

If you are having trouble booting into safe mode something is seriously wrong. There are a lot of things to try but usually the best option is back up your files, make sure you have your program installation disks, reformat and reinstall everything. If you cannot boot into safe mode eventually you are going to have big problems when you try to start the computer at all. If I were you I would back up my files right now.

Short of that: Under the dos prompt navigate to your c drive root (c:or wherever winxp is installed) and type: chkdskf. You will be asked if you want to run chkdsk when the computer reboots. Type: y then hit enter and reboot. Chkdisk will then inspect and repair if possible problems with where files are installed, tracked, etc. Then: Run every anti-virus and anti-spyware (especially antispyware) program you can obtain. The various antispyware programs all tend to find something new, although often it is merely an innocuous web cookie site that is labelled as spyware. Some spyware is simply unremovable, no matter what you read, and cannot be removed without reformattting and reinstalling. Regsitry cleaners may help but most just find meaningless dead-end stuff left over from programs no longer installed that does not really do anything to your computer.
