Steve buying a and X2 compatable

ahhh AGP compatibility facts are annoying enough, so please write 2X or 4X instead of X2 or X4 !!

it appears that the latest 4X cards also come in 3.3V as well as 1.5V, meaning you can get a 4X card that will fit. However, the slightly older 4X cards don't come in 3.3V.

The rule is, that voltages have to match. All speeds of card will work. (though I think that if the mobo only supports 2X, and you put a 4X card in then it will run at 2X, but it will work at all if the voltages match)

You have to identify 2 things. 1. The AGP voltage used by your MOBO (this is the same AGP voltage on your old working AGP carD) 2. The AGP voltage on your AGP 4X card

For your old working card, see here

That is a picture of a weird universal card. Your card will probably not look like that - hopefully. It should only have 1 cut. You just identify whether it's the 3.3V cut or the 1.5V cut. Your MOBO AGP Voltage is the same as the voltage of your old card. So that is the first thing identified.

Now, identift point 2, that is the AGP voltage of yor 4X card. Compare it to the picture.

I suspect that you'll be disappointed. I think that your 1X and 2X will be 3.3V cards. And your 4X will be 1.5V and so it won't work in there. Since the old 1X and 2X were only 3.3V, and only the newest 4X can come in 3.3V
