website file viewerNetgear ME101 Configuration Situation 1: Netgear MR814 with DHCP server enabled is connected to the Internet. Computer with Netgear ME101 is able to connect to the MR814 and the Internet with no problem. DHCP is provided... get for. printerserver and firewall 89 Duane Arnold You have to have port 80 open to connect to your ISP. True... i didn't realise that those programs only followed links. I don't know of a program that lists the files in a directory. I think the cases where you got a directory listing was when there was no index.html file, and that is how the web server may respond in that situation. I think your case is definitely a moral one. If you were to get a file listing illegally, then they could find out, so if they are guilty of slander then they will have something against you too. I'm no expert, but I was once one of many users on a unix machine that doubled up as both an apache web server (each user had their own directory) and as a telnet server. So we could log in remotely and put files in our web server directories. Any user could set up their web server so that directory was not executable by other users, i.e. another user could not list the files in it. The users that gave their directories executable access to other users were letting other users on that computer view all their files. Still, those users that could view the files in other users' directories, would nto have been able to if they weren't users logging into that computer via telnet. A more likely possibility is that your friend's web server is doubling up as an FTP server, so there are many other users on that FTP server. However, for one user to view the files in another's directory on an ftp server would probably require gaining control of the ftp server, or logging in as another user which would be illegal. You could try asking some hackers. However.. Surely, if a person is so childish as to slander your friend on the net, and then keep quiet about the URL, so that only a few select kiddy friends can look at it, then it's not really a case of dangerous slander. It's a case of bullying, mind games, and a scheme to demoralise. He wants you to sit there guessing, and ultimately the URL - if it exists, probably says something like "jane is a poo poo". If it was anything serious then he wouldn't keep it a secret and tell her to guess the URL. Best thing may be to catch him in the act of demoralising and bullying, maybe use a tape recorder mini recording device or bugs, or a tiny spy like video camera. If you do something illegal then he'll have something on your friend, and he'll use it to blackmail, goad and torture her. All speculation of course!
