winamp skips when I type
If you are using one of the newer versions of Winamp, they are more resource heavy. An interesting thing to look at is the IRQ sharing. This would be especially so for the sound card, display card, and any of the system devices in relation to these two devices. It is not easy to reliably start manually modifying the IRQ's and address settings for the devices. There may also be something's running in the background on your machine that is causing a lot of resource usage, and the way it is happening, the sound is being effected. This can partly go back to the IRQ and device addressing configuration. Another interesting thing to look at would be the cache and buffer sizes. You would have to research out how to increase the keyboard buffer in your machine, if applicable. Also, look at the memory size, its virtual cache handling size, the disk cache, and way these are being managed. -- The wisecrack answer would be, "Don't type when listening to your music.
