Some US consumers go out of work -but many benefit from it. You may want to look into how many industries shifted out of the US (eg. textiles, car manufacturing, electronics manufacturing, farming) and still how the US consumer base increased in terms of how many people were employed. I am not disputing that it hurts -but there are many conflicting theories which cannot exactly be brushed aside. That aside, the US consumer votes with his pocketbooks on whether to promote outsourcing or not. If you do not want cheaper products made outside, don't buy them and industry will react appropriately.

why do you use a documentary that you must have seen to stereotype the entire country? As of now, calcutta is one of the fastest growing IT centres in India. There ts a satelite township called Salt lake where a lot of companies have opened shop.

that is the domino theory which may or may not turn out to be true. Looking at some countries that came out of isolation -they only added consumers to the global economy instead of deplting the consumer base. And to contradict your line of thinking -if India and China can provide 2 billion first-time computer buyers, a lot more engineers can find jobs than if companies were forcing upgrades down the US consumer's throat. it will also reduce the amt of hardware that is dumped into landfills.
