Ehrenreek, who is a well-known establishmentist, is offering a false implication. She says that the jobless recovery, which is very real, is because of health care costs. I can attest that even jobs which do not offer any healthcare, which foreignors may be surprised to learn are commonplace, are becoming hard to find. Thus it is not because of healthcare costs that there are no jobs. It is because jobs are being sent to Asia, and because foreignors are being imported to take Americans' jobs.

Witness the clbutt-action lawsuit against Sun, which deliberately fired US workers to replace them in the USA with Indians. This is illegal but it is commonplace.

That isn't to say that our healthcare system isn't out of control. It's insanely out of control. Canada pays 2-3 of what the US does per citizen. The USA is paying something like $1.7 trillion for healthcare and fails to insure 40 million people. If we had a Canada-style system, we would pay $1.1 trillion and everyone would be covered.

In the insane US system, companies know it is more profitable to have more people get sick. Epidemics are more profitable than healthy people.

And perhaps not surprisingly, in some parts of the country uninsured people find they have no affordable health care option at all. You walk into a typical doctor's office and they have to restrain their laughter when you say that you have no insurance. Literally.
