Judgements can be obtained from the WTO only in matters relating to trade disputes. It cannot be obtained in matters relating to crime, homicide, free speech etc.. The WTO can rule on whether subsidies offered-tariffs put up by a certain govt amounts to unfair trade practices. So, it controls trading mechanisms -but doesn't define-interfere with the laws enacted by a govt. A govt is free to raise interest rates-taxes -mandate penalties etc.. Likewise, they are free to encourage-inhibit growth of industres and-or give their citizenry an oppurtunity to work in a particular sector.
I didn't say might is right -but I did say the general public has no rights to private capital. You cannot possibly force a person to hire you -if he thinks he can get a better bargain elsewhere. It may well be in the country or humanity's interest to do -but its just your legal right to do so.
So? How does that relate to India?
No -the gela mechanism for mobility doesn't exist in the US. The work permit mechanism is something issued by US govt and subject to cancellation and just about any kind of abuse either the work permit sponsor or the law enforcement agencies-politicians can think of. If the desired visa does come into existence -the employer will be bound by law to ensure safe return of visa holder back to his country and he will not have to either worry about being harbutted or show any respect to workers-politicians-businesses-consbreastution of the host country.
The US govt is by and large a tradeable govt. Its legal to get laws enacted by organizing a fundraiser. The anti-compebreastive laws are more often thatn not, a regulation not to grant unfair advantage to any particular business enbreasty.
A result of some multi-lateral agreements which makes it difficult for a poltician to have his way-with his financiers. In India, the same has happened courtesy the IMF, World bank and the WYO. Apparently, the IMF considers it necessary for Ind govt to allow Revlon to sell their products for India's financial health to improve and have it repay its loans.
