On Fri, 29 Jul 2005, HIT Fanatic Well, my "take" on what I've read that was written by economists falls into these categories: i) part or all of it makes zero sense, ii) all of it still has missing details and does not say anything about the negative effects, iii) some of it does make sense. A caveat, however, is that it is very difficult to do a good study and no matter how hard an economist works on some "theory," someone will find something to criticise. In other words, we're back to the problem of the "republicans vs democrats" (Although I have a prefernce, I'll also grant that other people will have a right to their own prefernce which may be different than mine, but I sure wish we had more representation for the middle ground). This is just another way of saying that "the system" as it is presently set up, will guarantee that there are losers and this will happen no matter how competant or hard working or willing to work those people are. This is the biggest injustice in our so-called civilization and modern world. Actually, back in the hunter-gatherer days (which no one wants), you could go out and get anything you wanted any time you wanted (unless the animals were hunted to extinction, or the crops would not grow because of drought, etc). Nice statement but after reading the book "The Nazi Seizure of Power" by William Allen, I had the frightening thought that this could all happen again, even in the USA, in the future. A radical minority taking over society and telling them what to do AND they all very obediently follow without protest. If things continue to get worse, today's "extremists" will be Well, I'm not sure I follow that one.
