America's Superpower Status Coming To An End 561What is cooking in the BPO kitchen The Economic Times Online What is cooking in the BPO kitchen? AKSHAYA BHARGAVA THURSDAY, MARCH 03, 2005 12:20:22 AM Is the Indian BPO industry beginning to move into a mainstream... Hard to say that. Meaning if you have a stable job (and lots of americans do) -that will ensure a life free from bankruptcy. The USD is losing its value from a pt to which it has risen. Look at the exchange rate of the USD vs the Rupee or any other asian currency 30 yrs back. When Nixon decoupled the USD from the gold std, he basically untied the ballon -allowing it to float up based on free market dynamics. And given how accessible the US govt is to vested interests, that also led to a situation wherein the govt cooperated with currency traders to inflate the dollar. If you think that the USD deserved its inflsted status -I would disagree. The inflated value was a result not of fundamentals but of cheap tricks similar to insider trading. Fundamentals remain strong for a longer period -but cheap tricks are meant to get you a quick buck and don't last forever. If the employer agrees to pay your US taxes over and above the Indian salary -will that suffice? Im trying to tell you that its not taxes but cost of living that is the issue here. In the absence of a change in policy -the middle clbutt will be severely affected by globalization, yes. But nobody is holding back the US govt from changing its policy. Nobody is forcing them to indulge in cheap tricks. If they want to get (re)elected, they will have to fix their own house in order. Your understading of tax havens and intl taxation doesn't seem accurate. People open accounts in tax havens when they want to avoid paying taxes. There are many Indians and chinese businessmen who have opened accounts in swiss banks. No -the reason is cost of living. If you look at news.com archives, a company is trying to counter offshoring by getting work done in lower cost towns of the US. The tax rate is stil the same, but house rent etc.. for programmers is less than in big cities. If the employee needs less money for house rent, ht would be willing to accept a lower salary and his employer will be able to put a quotation for a lower amt for the same amt of work. there are many working at fortune 1000s -but you are right that many MNCs have a policy not to create new jobs in the US unless absolutely necessary. It doesn't mean they don't like americans -just that they wouldn't want to hire someone at an american salary. I will leave it to you to fight it out with fellow americans as to who should be elected president. But it is a given that you cannot write off debt simply because your elected rep agrees to. America's Superpower Status Coming To An End 562 Kamal R. Prasad An and that Thanksgiving took two desbreastution is Not in IT...or any other specialty targeted by Indian, Chinese et. al concerns. is the rising, And led Out sourcing is a... I don't have anything positive to say about neocons -nor do I wish to see middle clbutt people ruined in the US. But if I were you, I would look at the big picture of what CAUSES offshoring and job loss in the US. Maybe true for people outside the political establishment. Ascribing honesty and ethics to an american politician sounds ludicrous to me. We have a 300 million+ middle clbutt -and rising. The govt has a mandate to pull people out of poverty and land them into the middle clbutt. So Im not sure if I understand you or if you have a first hand knowledge of the social structure in India. regards -kamal
