The reason there are so many foreign students in US universities is they do all the grunt work for which the lazy professors get all the credit. The research is paid by American taxpayers: the professor gets an undeserved huge salary, millions of grant dollars which he-she often spends on himself, and the foreign students get free ride scholarships paid by taxpayers.

I could see a teacher during the Cold War not wanting to give advanced teachings to a foreigner from a country allied with the USSR, such as India (they sided with the USSR throughout the Cold War), but you clearly had a problem with the student because he was Muslim, not because he was from an ally of the USSR. In reality, the Muslims were on our side, for example the good Afghans who kicked the USSR out of their country.
