Blame offshoring for the negatives of immigration 4539
Well, I recognise that numerical modeling is a valid scientific activity. The only thing I object is that it is forced on me as a worth thing to do, while I am an experimental scientsit by inclination. I was buttigned to a project into a department which is headed by an bosses. The worst qualities of a western and of a Soviet boss get combined. Well, back to the track -- he picked me even if I do not have a suitable background, because he knows that good quality work comes out of me unlike the work which is coming out from the locals (with which he is unsatisfied). Blame offshoring for the negatives of immigration 4540 Well, there is a fundamental problem with how scientific things are done (in the West). The bosses prefer to keep the... Blame offshoring for the negatives of immigration 4542 Seriously, an ultimate goal of computer modeling is subsbreastute experiment. We are not there yet but eventually will be... The problem is that they do all numerical modelling and no verification by the experiment. The reports are written on the basis of the computer modelling alone (or with very dismal results from experiments), and get handed to the funding agency, and get approved. OK, I agree with you, Russel, there are their own intellectual challenges and rewards in computer modelling. But it happens only if there is a worthy problem to solve. We have no worthy goal, or, more exactly, it does not get communicated to me. So here am I, spending days at the desk in front of the computer, and thinking that I should start doing the modelling work. But the motivation is not there, because no boss is interested in the outcome of my work, and they refuse to pay for the training course thinking it is too expensive.
