You as a person with experimental background have clear advantage in that you can evaluate the results of numerical modeling from another independent from mathematical considerations point of view. This is especially important in the areas where numerical modeling is not well established. You can benefit from that. The biggest difficulty in your situation is that it is hard for you to really understand the limitations of the theoretical concepts as far as reality is concerned. It would also be difficult to suggest something if the commercial tool you are using does not work. However, some efforts and stable environment help you to balance your experimental background with some theoretical basis. You will learn how to complement one with another. And not doubt that it expands you capabilities as a scientist.
