How the US is hurt by foreigners
On Wed, 25 May 2005, Mike McWilliams Kevin Philips, in his book "Wealth and Democracy," which I have read cover to cover, shows where the wealth is and his data show...

Indeed, I gave a thought to where my scientific career is going and where I want it to go to, and I have decided that I can use to my advantage all this push into computer modelling. I will pitch to the prospective employers my skills in both mathematical modelling and in physical modelling which will be used to verify the results of mathematical modelling. I have observed that this is the hot skills mix demanded by employers.

I have given even a further thought of what I expect from my career. Being a Research Scientist is good, but is not good enough for me. Here in this country, scientists are usually not given responsibility for a project (and responsibility comes with resources and power). Here, scientists usually toil away on projects which are not really required by industry or scientific community. The government sponsors science only because it gives prestige at the international scene. I want more excitement from my work. I want more responsibility and power than the scientist's job would usually give.

My former boss was kicked from his position because his immediate bosses did not like him. He was getting too much funding and too much power, so that he came to ignore his bosses. The administration moved him sideways into a newly-created role. He has plans to start high-profile projects. Taking into accoung his track-record in getting funding, I think he will get funding for his new ventures. From one side, the administration wants him to get this funding because they would get a cut, from the other side they want to curb his power. So his future is not clear yet. But I am thinking that I would like to get a position with him. I would get an opportunity to be at the beginning of the big projects. In fact, my former boss told me recently that he was creating new positions in his department, and that he would get one for me. However, in the so-called "real world", one really cannot rely on plans and on wishful thinking. One plans something, but it usually turns out differently. I liken the "real world" to a chicken running around the farm. If you sit in the house, you can see the chicken coming to the open door, jerkily turning head around, making few steps into the house and out, always running into accidential directions.
