I had quotes for mowing my lawn and it was outrageous. Yes, a guy who hustles AND maybe hires cheap help can do well.

There were articles in the WSJ about people who go out and just scoop dog poop off lawns (paid by the pile) and get $100K and they ain't doing it in the poor neighborhoods, either.

Lots of people just want someone else to do it. I also had quotes for leaf raking leaves and they were outrageous, too.

I had leaking skylights in my prior house and in the end the guys who did the work originally wanted about $75-85-hour for the work. Same deal on replacing cedar siding. I got a quote from a guy divided by the number of days and number of guys: $100-hour. Just to reiterate: that's $100-hour per guy on the job. Tree cutting? I had a dead tree that needed cutting down. Got a deal going (three guys show up with chain saws, boss + two underlings, they were there for one hour, I wrote a check for $375 and handed it over). You're in the wrong business. Was in the wrong business, too, but I'm retired now.
