I do agree that many people in prestigeous positions lack skill and intelligence, but probably got to where they are because of favortism. In my own expirience, these tend to be people in middle-management. The people who have the know-how and who are most innovative and resourceful seldom get recognition. That's corporate America for you.

I doubt that there will be this great rise in skill level. Already, fewer and fewer Americans are going into engineeering and sciences because they see very liitle prospects for employment in these fields. Most people I know in the software industry are no longer spending time to learn a new programming language or other technology, but starting to look to train for jobs in other fields, those where it is not possible to outsource the work. I'm not so optimistic about your vision that "America will become the world's leader -- again". Tradionally, nations with no middle-clbutt do not do so well. Also, if there are enough malcontent Americans, they just may vote for radical change in government that could hamper business altogether.
