What makes you think that moving everyone to some sort of national health plan is going to solve the problem? Let me suggest that will only make the problem worse. They try to "wring out" whatever savings they can (which is what a national health plan attempts to do....will come back to that later). Or they "ration" healthcare. But rationing, like price controls, do not work over the long term, because it does not address the fundamental problem with any of these plans. And over time, more and more rationing will occur...translation: more and more people over time will find that they will not get the care they want, when they want it. As for any scheme to move to a national health plan, that is a one time fix. What that attempts to do is reduce the fixed cost element of healthcare, but the problem is not in the fixed cost area, the problem is in the variable cost part of the system. Coming up with a way to address the fixed cost element of the problem, is a one time fix, because once you have created the most efficient system in the world, it still does not change the supply-demand imbalance problem.
