I live, now, about 20 miles from Seaford, DE. You know, "The Nylon Capitol of The World". They have been downsizing for the last 20 years, a little bit every year. Last year they sold the plant to some other company (I forget, but it was one of those abstract names).

We got gambling, too. Nice to help keep taxes down, but its expanding like crazy (We're going to get more racetracks, gambling casinos, the whole shooting match). One group gets rich while the 'gambling addicts' become criminals, destroy their families & marriages, get into drugs).
And, in some states there's already big cutbacks in Medicaid. And, so, (average) standard of living goes down while I see, all around me, the vast expansion in doctor clinics, endoscopy centers (and billboards "Get Tested for Colon Cancer"), other specialized centers, many hospital branch offices, and the main hospital is offering touch therapy, music therapy, homeopathy, acupuncture, herbal ..... etc. (your insurance might not pay for it, but they'll gladly add it to your bill). And, out back is the Debt Collection agency checking your buttetts to take your house away if you won't voluntarily pay your bill.
DuPont probably has more lawyers, lobbyists, consultants, and PR staff than pensioners.
And, how many other labs shut down? Bell Labs (reorganized for quick profits, long term projects shut down). Roche's Mol Biol lab in NJ, and many others. I wished I kept a list, but it was a couple dozen over the last 10 years.
