The problem is that since students see that there is no job security into position with superior education, they will be unlikely to go for it any more. A computer scientist job can be offshored way much easier that a schoolbus driver or a janitor. Before advent of globalization, it was the money prompting students to take this jobs. Now, the real wages on this jobs are declining combined with the biggest job insecurity ever. One must be nuts to go get a degree anymore.

And in the same time, a CEO and a rich shareholders with an IQ about half of the mathematician pickpocket billions over billions.

This is true. Because they see that education pays. In US you get a math degree to scoop poop. It is the culture of greed promoted by the "free market" lunatics crowd, which is the deterrent for education. And it is the "free market" lunatic crowd which will bring US to it knees with their pathological greed pushing neocons agenda of a new-feudalist society.

And also we need to push for work to pay. In order to achieve that we need to level the playing field betwen domestic companies and offshore facilities, and do that without protectionist measures. The only way to achieve that will be to impose a federal sales tax and to increase the taxation on capital gain and dividends. With the money we get we can: - provide universal health care therefore eliminating the fixed expenses a domestic company have to pay for health care regardless of profit

- provide retirement by extending SS to become the decent means of retirement. This will eliminate the fixed expenses US companies have to pay in retirement funds regardless if they can afford or not to do so.

- finance the university education. We need the best and the brightest to get a degree they deserve regardless of their parents income level. We also need a stronger selection. The community colleges are rather a joke. A BS in Europe is way over a MS degree at ANY college in US. A solution will be stronger admittance exams. It is not important how much money Bill Gates son have, if he can not pbutt an exam he should not be admitted to that school, regardless of the money involved.

- finance research centers. We see that corporations are moving R & D out of US at a unbelievable pace. I read yesterday a post that from today's corporate budgets for new investments in R & D 2-3 are to be made offshore. Withour research centers it is pointless to get a degree. Therefore, we must realize that large corporations can not be entrusted anymore with R & D for US and gov. have to be directly involved in public research centers and technology transfer to small businesses and startups.

- longer unemployment insurance conditioned by the fact that the unemployed goes back to school. Todays if an unemployed does not find a job in 9 months or so, he is just removed from statistics and any uninsurance help is stopped. What we have to do is say: We keep you on unemployment payroll IF you go to a college or university to get a better degree from a list we provide it to you (jobs expected to be in demand in future). if the guy is already overqualified he can be sent to a public research center.

CEO's IQ is one of the lowest in their companies and they are payed the most. Many rich shareholders will not be able to earn minimum wage by their skills if they need to work for a living.

The kids see that "getting by" pays off very well. In the same time, they see highly educated scientists and engineers struggling for a living. You can say whatever lies you want mr. Friedman. The kids see the fact that you are a liar.

Teachers do the best they can. It is our society more interested to "not upset the poor kid" because his father is a CEO so he don't need education to get by.
