I have no doubt there are some foreign doctors working in India. So what? There are also some other foreign workers in India. Heck, India is becoming a Mecca for foreign workers. At least 100 foreign workers are slaving away at Indian BPOs! Imagine that, 100!. Note the trend is growing. Since this article was written in 2003, perhaps India has issued a few dozen more work visas. At this rate of increase India will be taxing their entire computer infrastructure just to keep up with the floods of visa requests they will be getting.

In all of India's 1.5 billion person population, there are only 30,000 foreign workers. That's a tiny fraction of the number of foreign worker in the U.S. and our population is much, much smaller. I was about to get statistics from the Indian consulate on the number of Americans working at Indian BPOs, but I'm not sure they take statistics on numbers smaller than a dozen!

One of the most telling signs of this success is the fact that Indian BPO companies now employ more than 100 foreign workers who have opted to work in India at rupee salaries (which are usually 25 per cent of their European or American salaries). Another 100 or so are employed in their own countries but working there for Indian BPO companies. This trend is expected to grow as such employees bring with them foreign language skills (French, German, Dutch), destination knowledge and the mastery of local cultural nuances that local employees cannot match.

Experts say there are about 30,000 foreigners working in India. And this number is expected to grow in coming years. Kris Lakshmikanth, founder and CEO of Head Hunters India says, "We need overseas people to work in our country.
