Julian Stoev Everybody is enbreastled to live, but if you want to earn your living -you do need to make the best of what you have. Some of the folks on a.c.c talk of societal benefits-obligations as if the investor is bound by law to employ people -not because they provide a return on investment but because it is his moral duty to do so. If it were the case of labour-environmental conditions that translate to compebreastiveness -then yes, that could be true. Unfortunately, there is a huge difference in costof living in China-India etc.. vs US. So, even if the worker in US is willing to make dowith bare min. wages -he still expects 3-4 times Indian wages. There is exploitation in some sense of the word -but we live in a democracy, where employers cannot prempt attrition. When times are good, employees find it easy to jump ship and that more than anything, brings about improvement in employment conditions. I have worked both in the US and India -and rarely was I able to stick to the 40 hr regimen. It depends on how much responsibility you are willing to take and it cannot be enforced. I mean, 20% of the staff in any company works a lot -and rest either do avg work or just pile on others. In that case, american companies won't be able to do free trade. In the 19th, 20th and 21st century, United States has had the largest concentration of captive workers. regards -kamal
