alexy Something appears to be garbled in translation. I wasn't referring to MS but another company closer...

I should have been clearer. The net profit (after expenses and taxes) was approximately equal to the salary and bonuses, which I'm sure some investment analysts would consider way too high, and wasn't necessarily directed to those ends.

I should also add that I'm no accountant, but, even so, I've had a hard time trying to figure out some of the entries in those reports, such as how those salaries and bonuses are properly accounted for. Unfortunately, the supplementary notes don't shed much light.

Whenever I read a report like that, I start wondering just what the firm is trying to hide. Financial reports should be easy to interpret.

That's a question that some investment analysts have. If employees are paid in stock options, and the price doesn't go very far, it's going to have an effect on morale and productivity.

That may explain why many such firms hire younger people, because they are led to believe that they are part-owners of a business (which, in fact, they are) and that they are the sole authors of their prosperity (which would be unlikely). Someone like me who's had some experience in investing might be more skeptical.

Straydog After going through several annual financial reports, I've developed a quick rule of thumb on the state...

That's one reason I suggest that someone should look into a company's finances when applying for a job there because the results of a proper analysis can often tell a different story than the official propaganda.
