Productivity is a modern term favored by economists (because it is an attempt to measure output for comparison with input) and by CEOs because from it come public arguments that focus on profits and private arguments where underling salary money can be stolen and pbutted to executive and CEO bonuses.

The American workplace is very heterogeneous. There are some: a) good companies, b) less good companies, c) fair companies, d) poor companies, and e) very very poor companies. All based on a wide range of qualities. There are also many books in the library on this. An old one "In Search of Excellence" by Waters and Peters (or the other way around). Substantially discredited about 7-10 years later, too.

Another old book, "The Peter Principle-everyone rises to his own level of incompetance" was written long ago, by an American.

Not quite. I say everything works on the basis of three things: i) where the money goes and where it comes from, and ii) where are, who has 'the most money' at any given moment, and iii) determining what is the most effective propaganda (marketing and advertising) to influence money flows.

Oh, they are real personality types. Employers have to detect them and not hire X, and marketing departments have to market (read: propaganda) to each very differently.
