IBM's Profit May Rise as Shifting Jobs to India Reduces Costs 1792IBM's Profit May Rise as Shifting Jobs to India Reduces Costs 1794 Les Cargill Have you looked at wages in India-China? Why would any employer want to pay the above mentioned salary -if there are 2.5 Billion people in these 2 countries willing... Robert Kolker IBM's Profit May Rise as Shifting Jobs to India Reduces Costs 1795 Kamal R. Prasad Because location still matters in employment. I'm quoting actual figures around today. Most tech work isn't all that transportable; when it is, the people doing... Some of it happens to be good work too. If the work happens to be crappy -then as per market forces, the jobs will return to the next highest paid engr who can do the job satisfactorily. Conversely, if the job is good enough -you can kiss the job goodbye regardless of whom you elect. You should tell this to realtors in Blore and numerous other It destinations -if you genuinely feel that all of those offices established will disappear to make way for paddy fields and not to mention cows. If you mean that job functions will be created directly rather than moved from the USA -that is feasible. Companies like IBM just aren't hiring anybody in the US -but sending their money to India to hire personnel en mbutte. IBM's Profit May Rise as Shifting Jobs to India Reduces Costs 1793 Kamal R. Prasad That's pretty unlikely. More like $30 an hour for entry level, $50 for experienced ( fulltime employee W2, salary outgo ) and close to $100 for deep niche contractors and managers. What's happening... yeah - IT workers earn a LOT more than those in other fields without necessarily being more competent. So, a wage reduction has got to happen at some pt of time or the other. yeah -it holds true for lots of Indians and Pakistanis in the US, no matter whether they belong to IT or not. Its mostly because of similar lifestyle and the seperation back home is because of politics. IMO -it should be possible for americans to ask for a little more than the amt paid to people in Blore and retain their jobs. That would mean $10-hr for entry level programmers and $30-40-hr for experienced engrs-mgrs. its called 'dampening inflation' due to the entry of more workers into the job market. It helps consumers and makes manpower-intensive projects financially viable. It needn't be for the worse because at one pt, computers used to cost $10000 and not many could afford it. When IBM started using refugees from the Vietnam war (boat people), it was able to bring about a PC revolution. Subsequently -the movement of h-w manufacturing to east asia made computers v affordable and coupled with the internet -it generated a lot more jobs than lost in addition to providing more value for money to consumers. Would anyone still want to go back to buying computers that were manufactured 100% in the USA by rednecks for $10000 a piece? regards -kamal
