IBM's Profit May Rise as Shifting Jobs to India Reduces Costs 1794Les Cargill Have you looked at wages in India-China? Why would any employer want to pay the above mentioned salary -if there are 2.5 Billion people in these 2 countries willing to work for a lot less? He can be forced to -if the govt confiscates his wealth or if the job requires physical presence, but otherwise I see no reason. IBM's Profit May Rise as Shifting Jobs to India Reduces Costs 1795 Kamal R. Prasad Because location still matters in employment. I'm quoting actual figures around today. Most tech work isn't all... Nonsense. Software engineering is an unproven mechanism for guaranteeing increase in quality of code or increasing productivity in any other way. Most companies advertise their compliance to software engineering processes as a way to butture clients of good products -or some such marketing stunt. Producitivity has increased as the field has matured and more workers (supply) compete for a given job i.e. employers can cherry pick their resources and get more value for their money. Nah -you can get a $1000 computer with lots of goodies in it. If it sounds like you need to pay $3000, it is because of bloatware the vendor has bundled with the h-w, Apple does a better job at providing a good end user experience minus bloatware for a $1000 PC. I am referring to the times when h-w manufacturing was still in the US and there was no slave labour to help with building a PC. I could be wrong on the price point. The first mac sold for $2500 and not $10000. IBM's Profit May Rise as Shifting Jobs to India Reduces Costs 1796 Les Cargill I got a comp sci minor in 1971. I still remember that of the 35 in the program, only 5 of us could actually hack our... Yes -you can. The laws of economics apply to all industries, h-w, s-w and anything in between. S-w is just a field of engineering like any other, and neither does it require extraordinary talent, nor do the workers concerned deserves an extraordinary amt of pay. regards -kamal
