I didn't believe it either, but it works! Big Money

Les Cargill it does work and is working a lot more than you would have me believe.

No -it doesn't always signify quanbreasty. There are 1 billion instead of 300 million to choose from in India, and we have lower employment meaning more people looking out for jobs. That yields better bargains both in terms of quanbreasty and quality. I know that companies are opening offices even to do fundamental research in India and that there is a ton of patent applications pending from Indian offices at the USPTO. None of that rhetoric of people outside the US or of a different skin colour-race being stupid not to invent anything on their own -or being parasitic has any merit. Its something to do with making a political statement to secure one's job and do away with the compebreastion thats giving them a tough time.

Tuesday, July 18, 2006 CHENNAI: IT trade body, Nbuttcom today said that due to lack of quality manpower India will face a shortfall of 500,000 professionals by 2010. Nbuttcom president Kiran Karnik...

I have seen CMM level5 applied in practice in more than 1 company India has the largest no of CMM level 5 companies in the world. From what I have seen, it is nothing more than a mktg stunt to get clients -to butture them that your product is going to work great not just by the finite metrics you have in hand, but in entirety coz we follow this great quality butturance model.

increased compebreastion provides more value to the cistomer. The customer could be an end-user hiring an engr to fix something, or the hiring manager in a company. It means more value in terms of price and also quality.

unfortunately, I haven't seen many mgrs who would make engrs of good calibre. Mgmt is a different ball game i.e good engrs don't make good mgrs and vice-versa. The current organization where I work has some techie mgrs -but thats an exception to the rule.

yeah -that is what compebreastion does. It forces incompetent people to look for lower paying jobs because someone a lot more competent is willing to work for his salary, It means the employer with a limited budget will be inclined to fire the incompetent guy and hire the competent guy coz now with increased compebreastion, he can afford to. That is how compebreastion raises productivity as also s-w quality.

Kamal R. Prasad There's no driver for quality here - just quanbreasty. And the only reason I bring this up is...

the original q was whether you want a home-grown computer for a lot more than one buttembled by getting it doen for less overseas. The mkt has always chosen the latter -which comparative advantage suggests will happen.

which paper? If you say econ 101 doesn't apply to s-w -you are either being naive or living on some other planet. If neither -then you need to recall all econ books and re-write them to include text on which fundamental and well-proven laws of economics won't apply to s-w.

ive been working on s-w for more than a decade -and I can butture you it is about as difficult or easy as any other discipline. The thing that made it different is a demand-supply imbalance resulting in junk prohrammers earning a ton of money, till the industry matured fixing the demand-suppyl curve.

same holds true for electronics engrs and every other branch of engg.

same holds true for competent workers in every field. You have a small set of core engbrs doing 80% of the company's work and the rest pile on on others work -or ocbuttionally come on usenet and declare the industry off-limits to other parasites.

regards -kamal
