West to outsource 4.1 mn jobs by '08
Washington, July 14: The number of service jobs outsourced from the industrialised world to low-wage countries is expected to surge to 4.1 million by 2008, according to a...

BO L. By and large, you wouldn't be hearing it from IT workers in India. A businessowner-mgr of Indian origin is first that and then a person of Indian origin -meaning if he has something to gain from offshoring, that would be the real motto and not his nationality. About 2 yrs back, I predicted on a.c.c that offshoring is a big hit and there were naysayers saying that this is happening because companies are going through bad times. Today, I can say for sure that the bulk of s-w development will shift out of the US in 5-10 yrs time. Already, blore is set to overtake bay area as the largest concentration of tech workers and it is 1 of the many s-w development locales and not the only one in India.

snip Yes -that is a given.

If capital belonged solely to americans or if capital could not earn US citizenship -then it could be legalized in some way. Many of the stinking rich people in the US are not native born and even if they are, they may not have a problem disowning their citizenship, should the govt attempt to confiscate their wealth.

Yeah -or they make it financially unviable for businesses to operate the way gray davis did in calif. Govt has rights to decide the rules-penalties-overheads for doing business -but they do not have the means to force investors to shell out money and keep a business running. If they don't find it financially viable to operate the business or if other countries provide a better environment, they will shift out. So, if I were you -I would focus on what it takes to bring businesses into the state and hire natives as opposed to what we can do to make their life difficult. No -Im suggesting that workers in India are not to blame for doing outsourced work. You shouldn't have a problem convincing companies not to offshore if it doesn't pay off.

So govts need to arrive at a common set of overheads which apply to busiensses. Otherwise, they will shift out to locales that don't have the overheads.

regards -kamal
