India not ready for space travel and missles... 1853
Straydog I've always wondered why people use the Japan Inc model to explain the rest of the world? Japan went from a feudal society to a modern industrial nation starting from the Meiji Restoration of 1868 to the first world war. So essentially, Japan's industrial infrastructure and processes were in place before the WWII period and the 1970s, when Toyota took off in a major way. India, in contrast, has mainly English speakers but poor infrastructure and a lot of corruption in getting anything done. India will be writing manuals for the Maytag repairmen, essentially, low end service work. Software is something that the entire world will latch onto for its own "great leap forward". Might be on the website (and others): www.usatoday.com Weds, July 12, front page: breastle "190 dead in India blasts" subbreastle "Series... I hear you but that service work is also dissapearing..for instance you can buy new smaller size window AC from china for 68 bucks now.... thats more than the truck charge on a service call...repairs would cost 100 to 200 dollars... same with most refrigerators, and I suppose washer-driers. China and other Asian countries are already major manufacturing centers and will be adding R&D to the fold to build even better products down the road.
