I did that work for 4 years. It was a lot of fun, I have hilarious war stories of calls with irate customers. Everybody who had an MCSE laughed at my job back then because they were supposedly making $100 an hour. Now, I've worked myself up to a programming position while these "Will do MCSE for food" types are working at McDonald's.

I know it sounds like "schadenfreude", but I do feel for them, honest. But the whole dot com boom created an atmosphere at one point where everybody and his pet dog were getting 6 week crash course diplomas and competed for jobs with those who had solid computer science diplomas. Now the IT industry is more or less collapsed and there is a huge surplus of labor.

Outsourcing to India is not the problem, it is only a symptom. I can understand why the MCSE types wanted to get into IT: a job is a job is a job. All of the manufacturing and industrial sectors had no job vacancies, and these people were only going towards where the jobs were. Same thing for Indians, they see an opportunity to get a paying job and they go for it.

India's compebreastive advantage lies in it's poverty. They have a supply of unemployed workers (who speak broken English) willing to work for dirt cheap. They can talk about how innovative India is, but the bottom line is, they offer quanbreasty over quality. You get what you pay for.

capital leaves the US, the US economy moves closer to collapse. When the US runs out of money, they will no longer be able to afford to pay Indians to do their dirty work and they will either move to another country or they will close shop.
