Hey rkusenet
Hey! RKusnet is right! Look, if you think Brazilians are working through a serious worldwide energy problem by producing ethanol YOU ARE A RACIST! Yup! Unless...

On Wed, 4 Apr 2006, Kamal R. Prasad

What did I disagree on?

that by pointing to

And, YOUR country is becoming progressively more capitalist (and less communist-socialist, which has its own serious problems with corruption) with every pbutting day.

Yes.

If the job does

All through thousands of years of history UNTIL NOW, employers had no choice but to employ locals (or, with war booty get slaves real slaves who had no choices or pay slave traders to bring slaves, and then the slaves were property). All through history, all people REGULARLY become hungry and need food and other things to live some kind of life. So, they HAD to work, one way or the other. The employers (the guys who organized people) hired employees (who were happy to get trickle-down in order to buy crumbs and the employers could buy caviar). Sometimes this tradition was called "the social contract" because there were no other options.

Now look at another "social contract": marriage. Do you have marriage in India? How about a husband's duty to his wife? A wife's duty to her husband? Does a husband have the "right" to say: "Wife, I don't need you any more, go get lost"? Or, vice versa. Yes, I know a lot of men (mostly, but not always) like to have love with a woman (any) and then afterwards tell her to get lost. But the prevailing notions are that marriages are to last a long time and that the partners stay devoted to and help each other. Of course, at some but not all times in the past, men could dump women anytime they wanted, but I even have a refernce to marriage in ancient Summer, 4,000 years ago that marriages were meant for life and that the people were happy and in love with each other. I have reference to writings on gravestones in ancient Greek time that many if not most husbands and wives were happy with each other.

Or, do you think CEOs (todays kings) can justifiably use human beings as disposable kleenex or toilet paper? Just possibly, as slavery was OFFICIALLY (maybe not all reality) made illegal all over 100-200 years ago, and just possibly as the practice of imperialism and collonialism fell out of use some 100 years ago, just possibly there has become some broader recognition that any given peoples have some kind of rights that are not subject to whims of a stronger force. You had the British in India until they left and you guys didn't like it. Why should a lot of ordinary people anywhere who have little control be happy when a few people with a lot of control and money can make more control and money for themselves by causing suffering for ordinary people with little control or little money? Why do you chose to side with the small number of people now who have lots of control and lots of money and all they want it more control and more money?

So why do people report to work or stretch themselves to

I'm reminded of a case I worked on years ago where a company engaged in breaking the law had a series...

Because they get compensation (incentive) and they get recognition (their incentive is still in place and will be there tommorrow, the next day, next week, and next year).

How about you think why 10% of all Mexicans born in Mexico, today, are in the USA (its a statistic), which is a country with a higher cost of living than Mexico. How about you think about why that is happening?

Or maybe GWB

And, it will all result in a spiral to the bottom, where people will work 24 hours per day and barely live. It is degrading. Its fine if GWB can lower all of our costs of living to India's but I can tell you that ALL of the corporation CEOs and other rich people (who make their profits by selling things and services to people here) will lobby very hard not to do this.

I don't know. I don't care about H1bs. I do care that some guy who worked hard all his life suddenly gets told "We don't need YOU any more" but the number of people in the world keeps going up.

Fine, I had a situation like this much earlier in my life, too.

There are other aspects to the problem... many other aspects. For instance in the area of printer...

Fine, I have nothing against this. But don't think its only Indians who come here and work their way up and don't think a lot of people who are born here don't do it, either.

A lot of things in society exist to perpetuate exploitation (not slavery); all over the world, enhancements of capitalism causes people to borrow money and become "enslaved" to perpetual payments that almost never pay off the loan. If you want to call that slavery, fine, but nobody puts a gun to your head to sign onto H1b visas. Maybe the guys who do just don't know fully what they are getting into until they are in it and think later "what have I done" but that is not my problem. I am more concerned with stealing US jobs from US people and giving them to non-US people in non-US territory.

It isn't something new -but has

Exploitation has been going on since loans were made on contract to pay back the loans with interest and it all existed even in ancient Babylon. The contracts are etched on clay tablets. Interest rates could be 30-60%, yes.

Lots of people put themselves in a trap, voluntarily. Credit cards, time payment plans, financing all benefits the rich capitalists, manufacturers, and anyone selling something to underlings. And, we dont' get anything in schools to teach us to save money or understand the tricks because businesses would lobby the school system and say "this is anti-business" and the schools would stop teaching kids how to beware of how they get into an economic trap where all they are doing is helping some rich guy get richer.
