Laws against globalization.... 2917Laws against globalization.... 2918 Kamal R. Prasad As one who supports globalization I will say the WTO doesn't seem to be fair to the US. It seems to rule against the US at nearly every turn... Laws against globalization.... 2919 On Mon, 20 Mar 2006, Kamal R. Prasad India saw a good thing for itself (a way to bring in tons of money and modernization) and jumped... Old Pif yeah -the US led the whole world towards globalization -and the US govt is one of the main backers-founders of the WTO. India for its part, would not have acquisciezed but for its balance of payment crisis. it is unadvisable but not impossible to take an abrupt U -turn on the freeway, which is what you suggest. A better thing to do is to make up your mind on what you really want and stick with that policy for the next 50-100 years, so that the world around you can be spared the inconvenince of such U turns.
it is a multo-lateral agreement spanning across national boundaries, so it cannot be legislated to the liking of people of one country alone. If you want the US govt to strike a deal at the WTO table -and dishonour it when you find it inconvenient -that is not going to work because they have bargained for something in return from other countries. A better way is to evaluate national (middle-clbutt) priorities in striking a deal, so that benefits of free trade flow to a larger section of society. Another thing closer to what you have in mind, is to pull out of free trade with the understanding that you want neither the benefits nor the costs buttociated with it. regards -kamal
