As far as I can see, you didn't get much suport from your posting in alt.computer group called connections? Self-proclaimed Wizard going thorugh a tough period in his life, so lets just hope he polls through and remains sane in this crazy world.

As for your problem, I'd say that you might have gotten your computer infected by surfing the Internet. This, by the way, tells me something about your surfing habits.

So in your case I'd clean-up your computer and than see whether it needs any repairs to be done. 1) I'd buy an antivirus program and spyware removal program. 2) I'd disconnect my computer from the Internet and install both. 3) I'd run both antivirus and spyware removals until your computer is clean. 4) I'd connect to the Internet and download latest updates for your antivirus and spyware removal programs. 5) I'd disconnect my computer from the internet and run checkups again with updated antivirus and spyware removal. 6) This last step I'd do each time I finish surfing Internet: disconnect from the Internet, delete all cookies, delete all files in Internet temporary folder, close your WEB browser and run spyware removal program.

I understand that this is a pretty restrictive policy to follow. But even it won't guarantee you to remain problem-free in a long-run.
