More "black hole" job listings

Found promising-sounding job listings on two regional company websites this month. The requirements matched my skill set, and they featured somewhat old, "hard" skills that aren't terribly common. I consider "hard" jobs a good thing because the pool of poential applicants is less than an "easy" position. Unfortunately, many Hindustani clog up "hard" jobs by creating a custom resume with the listed skills.

Each site had an online form to send a resume; the forms have several other fields. Applied for each.

As can be expected, applying for these jobs is like throwing the resume into a black hole. Wouldn't be surprised if the online submissions end up in dev-null.

Plugged the companies into zazona. Each company has a history of hiring aliens, mostly H-1B, but also a few green cards. One company had 23 aliens; the other had six. Of course they could also have countless foreign workers sponsored by recruiting firms, and the database is said to show only a small fraction of the actual number of aliens.

One online form had a radio button control for residency status: the three choices were: can work for any employer, visa sponsored by antoher company, and no visa. Wouldn't be surprised if any application with the first radio button is automatically deleted. Another field likely to cause automatic rejection is the salary range; I selected a quite low range, but they might delete anything other than the lowest range.

I'll probably call one of the companies this coming week to ask if they received my application. It'll be somewhat interesting to see how they try to blow me off.
