I dunno, I used to be able to program COBOL in my sleep, but I've been doing other stuff for a long time now, and only get the rare occasion when the job demands to play with modern programming (and doing something basic like digging info out of Novell dirXML files and attacking our local AD with the results actually took a fair bit of concentration, but not exactly surprising since I was dumped in the deep end from having come from CLI based programming straight into .NET framework and event-driven programming with a near decade gap of pretty much touching nothing besides the odd bit of playing around, was bloody good fun though). The thing is I know quite a few people here in Oz that live and breathe programming and I reckon they'd easily match up to you guys. The problem both Oz and you guys face is that India also has the same, and a much bigger population base to pull them from, and poohouse wages to make them viable to both your bosses and ours. Not greatly happy about that, but it's the way the world is going.

Errrr, I know 16 year old Aussies writing their own DirectX controls. And you think Indians don't have access to the same resources as you and me? It ain't exactly hard to learn, country of origin don't mean poo. Size of population makes a diff though, and the fact they can pay people with shoe-laces makes a much bigger impact.

The only way to fix this is to either:

that don't work, such as callcentres. At least quality would win out over cheapness of service in some respects, Dell have learnt this at least for their corporate customers, large batches of British companies have also reversed their outsourcing to India decisions.

Our biggest saving point is that India do quite often f*** it up royally.
